Video: Trailers for 'Monsters', Shows Similarities to 'District 9'

Some are calling the upcoming sci-fi Monsters movie the low budget District 9, but that's not entirely fair. From this latest trailer, it certainly doesn't look low budget. Granted, we don't see a lot of the actual monsters, but the glimpses we do see seem consistent with the story and certainly don't look like cheesy or poorly done special effects. If anything, the lower budget ($15,000 vs. District 9's $30 million) helps give the movie that gritty feel.

That grittiness works well with the plot of the film, which shows photojournalist Andrew Kaulder played, by Scoot McNairy, as he helps escort his publisher's daughter Samantha Wynden, played by Whitney Able. They must travel through the infected area where the NASA probe crashed six years prior, releasing alien life forms that began to appear and grow.

The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, is set for a limited release on October 10, 2010.
