Peter Jackson to Direct 'The Hobbit' After All

MGM has been hard pressed to find a director for the two installments of The Hobbit ever since Guillermo del Toro decided to drop out. After del Toro left, other directors considering the movies were David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), David Yates (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour). However, none of them signed a contract.

That leaves Peter Jackson, who said he would direct the prequel films if MGM couldn't find anyone else. He is currently negotiating a deal with them. Hopefully he won't run into the same problems that del Toro faced. Part of the reason del Toro left the project was that the cash-strapped studio kept delaying the starting date. However, sets are already being built in New Zealand, and Sir Ian Mckellen has tried to assure fans that shooting would begin by the end of the year.

Robert Pattinson Related to Dracula

Now this puts a new meaning in blood relatives. Just in time for the Eclipse release, which comes out next week, Robert Pattinson has discovered he has a very Twilight-appropriate family member. Genealogists assert that the 24-year-old heartthrob is a distant relative of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

In addition to discovering the relationship between Pattinson and the Transylvanian leader (whose real name is Vlad III Dracula), the researchers at Ancestry.com also discovered Pattinson is a distant cousin to Prince William and Prince Harry of the British royal family.

Related to royalty and immortal blood suckers... no wonder chicks everywhere love him. It also may explain why he's so good at portraying the pale yet sexy Edward. I just don't want to hear about who Taylor Lautner is related to.

Video: The Green Hornet First Trailer

This trailer for The Green Hornet reveals a movie that takes the comic book movie trend in a great direction: keep the explosions, kicking ass, and gizmos and gadgets, but add an element of humor as only Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg can give us.

He then teams up with Kato (Jay Chou), one of his father's employees. Britt becomes the masked vigilante The Green Hornet and together with Kato they hit the streets to fight crime.

Proof that Pixar always makes a high caliber movie: just look at the numbers for Toy Story 3.

Pixar is known for making movies that are cute and loved by kids, but also smart enough for the rest of us, and Toy Story 3 is no exception. Funday Monday: If Movies Followed Their Original Casting

WildAmmo has a collection of movie posters where the design shows the original casting. Some examples include Will Smith in The Matrix, Robert Redford in The Graduate, Nicolas Cage in Constantine, and Tom Hanks in Jerry Maguire. The two most noticable ones for me were Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Brokeback Mountain (um, cliche), and O.J. Simpson in The Terminator. James Cameron in fact stated in 1984 that "People wouldn't have believed a nice guy like O.J. playing the part of a ruthless killer." Right.

'Indiana Jones 5' in Works?

The rumor mill is always at work, and this time it gives us some tidbits for the upcoming Indiana Jones movie.

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are working on a script, said to be almost complete. The story shows Indiana, of course played by Harrison Ford, and his son Mutt Williams (Shia La Beouf) as they head to the Bermuda Triangle. This will be Indy's final film, and I seriously hope they give him the proper conclusion and send off.

The most positive report is that they will move away from the CGI effects of the last movie. And seriously guys, PLEASE no more cop-out alien endings.

Video: Lady Gaga 'Alejandro' Music Video

Lady Gaga's new video for Alejandro was released today. Directed by artist Steven Klein, it is slightly dark and twisted, as we have come to expect from Lady Gaga. Gaga has also acknowledged that the video has a "homoerotic military theme".

While I don't think the video (or the song for that matter) is as strong as Telephone or Bad Romance, it is still a visually stunning ride. There are definitely some strong influences from Madonna in the song and video, and I think the video also incorporates some Janet Jackson, ala Rythym Nation.

A reboot of The Crow is in the works, and will be directed by Stephen Norrington (Blade, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Edward Pressman, who produced the previous Crow installments, shed some light on the new film when he spoke to MTV's Movie Blog.

Pressman if very enthusiastic about the project, which will be set both in the southwest, as well as the more familiar gritty urban setting. They hope to begin filming this year, with an "offer out to a major actor". It will be interesting to see how much they are influenced by Brandon Lee's character from the original.
