'Buffy' Reboot in the Works, but Joss Whedon Not Involved

Warner Bros. is rebooting the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise with a new film, but without Joss Whedon. Whedon only wrote the screenplay for the 1992 movie and was the mastermind behind the oh-so-popular TV series. He had a long response to E!, where he dealt with his disappointment with humor. After letting out audible sighs and joking about the residuals he'll pull in, he also joked, "But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?"

This film remake, written by Whit Stillman, will indeed involve a girl named Buffy who slays vampires. However, she won't be in high school. And given their exclusion of Whedon (boo), she probably won't be portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar (double boo).

Rosario Dawson Wants in on 'Star Trek 2'

Rosario Dawson has expressed a keen interest in having a role in Star Trek 2. After hiding her Trekkie love from Unstoppable co-star Chris Pine (aka Captain Kirk), she finally let it slip. She has also been gushing to Zoe Saldana (Uhura), as well as "accosting" (Dawson's wording) a few other Star Trek cast members. In addition to admiting to being into all things Star Trek as well as her love for J.J. Abrams, she thinks she would make "one sexy vulcan" and, well, we have to agree!

Most of the cast from Star Trek has signed on for two sequels, with the first one due out June 29, 2012.

Video: 'Family Guy: It's a Trap!' Trailer Spoofing 'Star Wars Return of the Jedi'

20th Century Fox released this trailer today for the final chapter in the ongoing Family Guy spoof of the original Star Wars trilogy. It's a Trap!, which parodies Return of the Jedi, is almost an exact remake of the original trailer for the 1983 classic.

It brings back Peter as Han, Chris as Luke, Lois as Leia, and Stewie as Darth Vader. New characters include Joe as Jabba the Hut, Meg as the Sarlacc Pit, as well as characters from The Cleveland Show and American Dad. Also thrown into the mix are Osama bin Laden and some less-than-cute cannibalistic Ewoks.

Here is the trailer:

For comparison, here is the original trailer for Return of the Jedi:

Video: Two New Trailers: 'Cowboys and Aliens' Teaser Trailer and International 'Tron: Legacy' Trailer

We came across two great trailers this morning. The first is for Cowboys & Aliens, the sci-fi western based on the graphic novel by the same name. It is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde (The O.C., House). The film comes out on July 29, 2011.
United States 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella, he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents – townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors – all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The second trailer is the international trail for Tron: Legacy. While not that different from previous Tron trailers we have seen, it is still exciting.

Video: Trailer for 'Green Lantern'

Here is the first trailer for Green Lantern, with Ryan Reynolds playing Hal Jordan / Green Lantern and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, his childhood sweetheart and fellow pilot. It also features Mark Strong as his mentor Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as buddy Hector Hammond.
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
Green Lantern is set to be released on June 17, 2011.

Video: 'Cars 2' Goes Global

Pixar is coming out with a sequel to Cars, and this time Lightning McQueen and Mater are going global as they particiape in the first World Grand Prix. Add in the James Bond-esque spy thriller element, and we have an action-packed movie that is essentially one big global car chase. Michael Caine voices the British intelligence agent (an Aston Martin, natch) who approaches Lightning and Mater.

I think the general consensus is that while Cars was not anyone's favorite movie, it made enough money and generated enough interest in spin-off TV shows and the like, that it warranted a sequel. I personally would rather see more rats or robots if Pixar wants to do a sequel, but this looks entertaining enough for kids and their parents.

Here's the official Disney plot description:
Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

Bill Clinton and Paul Giamatti Have Roles in 'Hangover 2'

Bill Clinton and Paul Giamatti will both have small roles in The Hangover 2. Giamatti will likely play a tattoo artist, a role initially offered to Mel Gibson. Bill Clinton will have a cameo playing himself. He filmed with director Todd Phillips on Saturday, while in Bangkok, Thailand. Liam Neeson also recently joined the cast, in an unknown part.

These recent additions will join the returning cast of Bradley Cooper as Phil, Ed Helms as Stu, Zach Galifianakis as Alan, and Justin Bartha as Doug. According to MTV Movies Blog, what is known about the plot is some sort of tryst between Alan and a transvestite, Stu is getting engaged, and they all end up in Bangkok. And really, if you're going to out-do Vegas, it really should be in Bangkok.

The Hangover 2 is scheduled to be released on Memorial Day weekend, 2011.

More 'Dark Knight Rises' News: Short List for Two Female Leads

Now that he finalized the title for the next Batman film, director Christopher Nolan is trying to cast the two female leads for The Dark Knight Rises. One would be the love interest for Bruce Wayne, and the other will be a villain.

Making the short list of actresses in consideration are: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. We think any of these ladies would be a great addition to the growing cast. And perhaps the multiple female leads will help dispel notions that Nolan has issues with women.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters July 20, 2012, and shooting will start in April of next year.

Channing Tatum to Join '21 Jump Street' Adaptation

Channing Tatum (Step Up, G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra, Dear John) will soon be in negotiations to join Jonah Hill in the adaptation of 21 Jump Street. The big screen version is based off of the 80's cop show, where young-looking police officers infiltrate high schools to catch drug dealers. The show was famous for launching Johnny Depp's career. Depp has a "funny cameo" waiting for him, if he wants to join the project.

Production for 21 Jump Street is set to start Spring 2011.

Video: Third 'Tron: Legacy' Trailer Is Here

The third trailer for Tron: Legacy is here, and it looks awesome! It shows more of the story arc than previous trailers, and of course some great action scenes. Between the Daft Punk-Tron video and Jeff Bridges' general badassery, there is a whole lot going for this film, which comes out December 17, 2010. Bridges is reprising his role as Kevin Flynn, and Bruce Boxleitner returns as Alan Bradley and Tron. Joseph Kosinski is making his feature film directorial debut with the movie, and Garrett Hedlund portrays Flynn's now-adult son, Sam.
