Tony Scott has confirmed that he will direct a sequel to his 1986's Top Gun. Screen writer Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is reportedly working on the script for the project, tentatively titled Top Gun 2. According to Scott, the new movie will not be a "remake" or a "reinvention", but rather a "new movie". Scott would not confirm that Tom Cruise would return as Maverick, but the actor may consider joining the project in a supporting role.
