Back to the Future is a classic film, and Michael J Fox was very memorable in his role as Marty McFly. But he almost didn't play the iconic time traveler at all. Eric Stoltz was the actor originally cast as Marty McFly. He filmed for 5 weeks before director Robert Zemeckis decided to replace him.
Never-before-seen footage of Stoltz as McFly, plus details of the shocking switch, are included in the extras of the 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray of the Back to the Future trilogy.
All we know is this: Michael J Fox looks good on a skateboard, no matter what year it is!
