It's the wild west meets the wide open seas. Deadwood's Ian McShane has signed on to play the villain Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
The actual pirate Blackbeard is probably the most well-known today. The English pirate, whose real name was William Treach, operated around the West Indies during the early 1700s.
McShane will join Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow and Penelope Cruz as the new female lead in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The film will shoot this summer with director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine). Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to be released in theaters May 20, 2011.
