'Taxi Driver' Remake Rumors False!

Phew. So it turns out those rumors swirling around the internets yesterday about the status of a Taxi Driver remake are false. There is no such remake in the works.

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are said to be working on a new project, but it is more likely to involve the world of gangsters, rather than the world of mohawk-sporting vigilantes.

Scorsese and De Niro Planning 'Taxi Driver' Remake?

We're really not sure how we feel about this rumor, coming out of the Berlin Film Festival: Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are going to do a new version of Taxi Driver with Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier.

The original Taxi Driver, made in 1976, featured Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle. Bickle is a loner who drives a cab in New York City. He grows increasingly disgusted by what he sees, which fuels his downward spiral as a gun-toting, mohawk head-shaving, vigilante.

There is no word yet if this film will be a remake or a sequel, or if other characters, such as Jodie Foster will be reprising their roles. Stay tuned for further news on Taxi Driver 2: Electric Bugaloo (shudder).
