Harry Potter fans, get ready! The first theatrical trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is here, and it is intense. As if there was any doubt before, we are officially excited for this movie. Is it November 19th yet?
In the trailer, we see Voldemort grow stronger and more powerful. Harry, Hermione and Ron set out on their treacherous quest to track down and destroy Lord Voldemort's secret to immortality: the Horcruxes.

Not to detract from the movie more, but I'm really not a fan of the CGI animation combined into a live-action film, ala the Chipmunks. And do we really need to see a couple of rotund bears pulling off their shenanigans in 3D?
On the upside, anything that gets people, kids in particular, thinking and talking about saving state parks is a good thing. The film will also feature Rabid Rider, the third of three new Looney Tunes shorts. The first two were apparently pretty good.
The verdict: the film will be no pic-a-nic for adults to sit through, but the kids will love the over-the-top gags.
Sigh. Sometimes it seems like Hollywood has completely run out of new movie ideas. Take the new movie Battleship by Universal, which will be based on the board game. Yes, we are now basing our movies off board games.
At least it will star the gorgeous Rihanna, making her film debut. It will also star Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), and has director Peter Berg signed on as well.
To be fair, this is not the first movie to be based on a board game. Clue comes to mind. However, at least the game Clue had characters, and a murder mystery to solve. With Battleship, E-5, A-3 does not a movie plot make.
As for what the plot does involve, we know that Kitsch and Skarsgard play brothers and naval officers whose battleships join forces to repel aquatic alien invaders. Board game meets aliens, ok we're intrigued. Battleship is to set sail on May 25, 2012.
With all the water from these ships, someone better get out their umbrella-ella-ella. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Lots of great stuff came out of last week's Comic-Con in San Diego. In addition to the costumes, panels, and stars, there were also plenty of new trailers, including this one for MegaMind.
This new trailer shows insight into the premise of the film, which revolves around the question "What if the bad guy won?" We see the evil MegaMind (Will Ferrell) as he finally defeats Metro City's hero, Metro Man (Brad Pitt). However, he finds that life without his nemesis is boring, so he creates a new hero to take Metro Man's place. In this trailer we get our first glimpse of this new hero, Titan (Jonah Hill). We also get to see more of Roxanne Ritchi, reporter and Metro Man's girlfriend, voiced by Tina Fey, as well as MegaMind's Henchman, Minion (clearly someone was on the same page as Despicable Me), voiced by David Cross.
This shouldn't come as a huge surprise, especially considering the other problems the studio has been having (i.e. The Hobbit delays). Director Sam Mendes has moved on to other projects, including an adaptation of John Williams' 1960 western novel Butcher's Crossing, and On Chesil Beach. Script writer Peter Morgan has also moved on, as has writer Neal Purvis, who will be working on the scripts for Johnny English 2 and The Mission Song. Agent 007 aka Daniel Craig has of course picked up other projects as well - he will be the lead in the English version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Of course, the Bond series is too popular to die altogether. Someone will pick it back up, and hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.
This great video shows scenes with the top 100 greatest movie insults. Good stuff. Seriously, how can you ever go wrong with "You son of a motherless goat!"? Watch until the end for a great Betty White zinger. (Warning: some very NSFW language.)

This trailer for the upcoming movie Rango is both visually stunning and funny yet smart. The animated film is about Rango, a chameleon with an identity crisis in the western town of Dirt. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Rango is voiced by Johnny Depp. The movie is expected to hit theaters March 4, 2011.

It shows Harry, Ron and Hermione on their quest. It also shows Harry in his final showdown with Voldemort. Anyone else super excited for the first half movie to come out (November 19, 2010)?
MGM has been hard pressed to find a director for the two installments of The Hobbit ever since Guillermo del Toro decided to drop out. After del Toro left, other directors considering the movies were David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), David Yates (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour). However, none of them signed a contract.
That leaves Peter Jackson, who said he would direct the prequel films if MGM couldn't find anyone else. He is currently negotiating a deal with them. Hopefully he won't run into the same problems that del Toro faced. Part of the reason del Toro left the project was that the cash-strapped studio kept delaying the starting date. However, sets are already being built in New Zealand, and Sir Ian Mckellen has tried to assure fans that shooting would begin by the end of the year.
Casting for the new Footloose is complete. Paramount has announced that newcomer Kenny Wormald will play Ren and Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars) will portray Ariel. Also joining the cast is Dennis Quaid, who will play Reverend Moore.
Kenny Wormald has appeared as a professional dancer in several music videos and toured with Justin Timberlake. He may be best known for his apperances on MTV's show Dancelife and his starring role in Center Stage: Turn It Up.
Zac Efron had previously been cast as the lead Ren, but dropped out because he did not want to do another musical. Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) will be directing, and Jamal Sims is choreographing.
This trailer for The Green Hornet reveals a movie that takes the comic book movie trend in a great direction: keep the explosions, kicking ass, and gizmos and gadgets, but add an element of humor as only Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg can give us.
Seth Rogen plays Britt Reid, the partying son of a prominent newspaper man who must take over the media empire when his father mysteriously dies. He then teams up with Kato (Jay Chou), one of his father's employees. Britt becomes the masked vigilante The Green Hornet and together with Kato they hit the streets to fight crime.
Cameron Diaz plays Lenore Case, and Christoph Waltz plays the villainous Benjamin Chudnofsky. The film is directed by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and will be unmasked in theaters January 14, 2011.
Proof that Pixar always makes a high caliber movie: just look at the numbers for Toy Story 3.
Pixar is known for making movies that are cute and loved by kids, but also smart enough for the rest of us, and Toy Story 3 is no exception. It dominated at the box office, bringing in $109M in its first week out, and broke the record for the biggest single day gross for an animated film. It also has an astounding 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a metascore of 91 on Metacritic. If you want to watch any of the trailers, Trailer Addict has them all.
The first trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is out. Anyone familiar with the books will immediately recognize the general plot of the film, and many of the characters. We see Edmund and Lucy, along with their cousin Eustace Scrubb, sucked into a painting which draws them back into Narnia. There they join up with Prince Caspian and sail on the Dawn Treader.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is an upcoming animated movie.
This trailer introduces the characters and gives an overview of the plot, based on the first three books in the children's fantasy series Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky. We follow Soren, a young owl who gets captured by the evil Pure Ones. He must make a daring escape with other young owls and fly far away to find the Great Tree and the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole. These mythic owls are Soren's only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving his owl kingdom.
Legend of the Guardians was directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), and includes the voices of Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Rachael Taylor, David Wenham, and Emilie de Ravin. It is due to hit theaters on September 24, 2010.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is based on the first half of book 7, the novel by the same name. It is the second to last movie in the film series. It shows Harry, Ron, and Hermione on the run. Death Eaters have taken over the Ministry of Magic and there is a price for turning Harry in so Voldemort can kill him. The film will hit theaters on November 19, 2010.
The trailer for The Last Airbender portrays Aang showing off some of his martial arts-style airbending moves. The Last Airbender will be released in theaters on July 2, 2010.
Another new Twilight Eclipse trailer was released yesterday. It reveals a little more of the plot, showing the Cullen clan joining forces with Jacob and his werewolf pack to fight against the new army of vampires.
In other movie news, Splice and Get Him to the Greek both open in theaters today. As does Marmaduke, which currently has a whopping 9% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
A reboot of The Crow is in the works, and will be directed by Stephen Norrington (Blade, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Edward Pressman, who produced the previous Crow installments, shed some light on the new film when he spoke to MTV's Movie Blog.
Pressman if very enthusiastic about the project, which will be set both in the southwest, as well as the more familiar gritty urban setting. They hope to begin filming this year, with an "offer out to a major actor". It will be interesting to see how much they are influenced by Brandon Lee's character from the original.
Here is the new trailer for Eclipse. While the first trailer was more for the Twi-hards who know the story well, this one is enticing enough for anyone. Who doesn't love a serious vampire vs wolf fight?
This trailer for The Last Exorcism is definitely intriguing. The film is shot in the pseudo-documentary style like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Because it is produced by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel), the movie should prove to be sufficiently creepy and frightening.
The story follows Marcus Cotton, a priest who performs exorcisms but does not believe in them. He is performing one last exorcism, and agrees to let a documentary crew film it. And of course, things don't go quite as planned.
The film looks like it has some terrifying features, but will it stand up to the rubric of The Exorcist? The Last Exorcism hits theaters August 27, 2010.
We're in the middle of finales and season enders on TV (still mulling over Lost, anyone?), and last night the 8th and final season of 24 came to a close. Jack Bauer may have had eight of the longest days of his life, but he's not done yet, and this time it will be on the big screen.
Scribe Billy Ray is developing a script for 24 the movie, and of course Kiefer Sutherland is returning as our hero, now on the run. The story will pick up in the aftermath of Day 8, but beyond that the plot details are unclear.
